Artisans de Genève’s Val Viola is a private commission built around collector Mr. A.N.I.’s own Rolex Submariner Ref. 116610, inspired by an alpine lake at dusk. Its namesake valley lies in the Rhaetian Alps, where evening waters provided the palette for the custom dial. Hand-cut guilloché forms a geometric pattern in relief, changing its apparent depth with the light and shifting between turquoise, violet, and green as the viewing angle moves. A brushed grey ceramic bezel insert frames that changing surface with a matte finish. An aperture in the lower dial reveals the moonphase complication: a blue aventurine disc inset with a mother-of-pearl moon. The customization gives the watch a landscape expressed through its materials, with the bezel providing a fixed visual boundary around the dial’s changing reflections.
