BMW’s electric 3 Series pairs a structural battery with bidirectional power.

The 2027 BMW i3 50 xDrive brings the eighth-generation 3 Series onto BMW’s Neue Klasse electric platform. Cylindrical lithium-ion cells integrate directly into the chassis through a structural battery housing. A forward-leaning sharknose unites the kidney grille, horizontal LED headlights, and driver-assistance sensors in a single visual panel, while flush door handles and concealed side-window seals smooth the bodywork. Rear synchronous and front induction motors deliver a combined 463 horsepower and 476 lb-ft of torque, taking the sedan from 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds. The 112.2 kWh battery provides an estimated EPA range of 446 to 468 miles. Its 800V architecture supports 400 kW DC charging, replenishing 10% to 80% capacity in 21 minutes. Inside, Panoramic iDrive replaces the conventional instrument cluster with driving information across the lower windshield, above a driver-angled 17.9-inch central display. Bidirectional Vehicle-to-Load and Vehicle-to-Home capability gives the sedan another role when parked: a power supply for external devices or the home.

BMW lists the i3 50 xDrive at $61,500 before a $1,350 destination charge.
