A machined aluminum sketching pen designed around a clear view of the point.

Alberto Essesi’s Exclamation Pen is a sketching instrument the Milan-based industrial designer machines himself from solid aluminum blocks, producing numbered, limited runs. Its pronounced taper clears the sightline around the tip, letting the person drawing see where the point meets the page. The metal has a matte satin finish, and the assembly separates into three pieces, with the stand doubling as a cap. Sold through Normal Objects, the pen follows an earlier, rougher concept inspired by a documentary about early humans marking walls with rocks. That precursor explored the basic gesture of drawing; the finished pen gives it a precisely machined form. Placed together, the pen and stand form the exclamation mark behind its name, turning a sketching tool into a piece of punctuation on the desk.
